End Malaria Makes A Difference in a Teenager's Life

I got the following card from Dana Reeves a few weeks ago:

Charlie,

My copy of End Malaria arrived today - thank you! My 15 year-old was interested in it so we spent an hour together reading it and then he went online and did some research about the problems in Africa. Afterwards he went in his room, brought out his wallet and handed me $25 to buy another copy so he can give it do his Biology teacher to share with the rest of his 9th grade class.

Michael and you have just made a difference in a teenager's life (and hopefully many more!)

Hugs, Dana Dana won the book in Michael Bungay-Stanier's "Great Connections Help You Bring Projects to Fruition", a post that was part of our core conversation in September called Great Connections Lead to Great Ideas. This card really made my day and it's reminders and feedback like this that reinforce why I do what I do when I lose my way. At a certain point, we transcend the buzzword nature of tribe and I love seeing how our work affects not just readers, but their families, too. As awesome of a book as End Malaria is, I also wanted to point out that it was Dana who made it a point to read with her 15-year old son. There's a whole a lot of awesome parenting going on there. Just sayin'. Just because you don't always see the effect of your work doesn't mean that it's not having an effect. This time we got to see the effect. Thanks, Dana - and thanks to everyone else for being here to enable and witness it.
