Transform Your OKRs into OKPs for Better Planning
The 'P' helps avoid a common pitfall with OKRs
Over the last few weeks, we hosted quarterly planning sessions with leaders and entrepreneurs in the Productive Flourishing community. After I shared some resources
with some of my clients who weren’t in those sessions, it occurred to me that I could share them with premium subscribers, too.
I've taken the traditional OKR model and given it a practical twist: OKRs become OKPs — Objectives, Key Results, and Projects. This approach helps you avoid the common pitfall of confusing a project with a key result.
Below are an eight-minute video, two mini-workbooks, and a worksheet to help update your quarterly OKR/OKPs. Even if you don’t use OKRs, you may find the distinctions between destinations, milestones, and projects useful.
1. Video: Understanding OKRs/OKPs and how to avoid common pitfalls
2. Mini-Workbooks: Quarterly Review
Instead of just jumping into planning, start by reviewing the last quarter’s wins, setbacks, and opportunities. Your plans will be better and have more perspective.
The two workbooks walk you through the same questions. One is focused more on people who lead teams and the other is for entrepreneurs whose efforts create outsize effects for their businesses.
3. Worksheet: Building Out Your OKPs
The Building Out Your OKPs worksheet is a Google Doc that you can copy and fill out. Pro-tip: share it with your team before it’s done so they can help you make better OKPs and feel like co-creators of the plan rather than victims of it.
Email me your OKPs if you’d like some feedback on them.
