What Can We Let Go Of? (Productive Flourishing Pulse #496)
To make room for what we need to move forward
Last week we talked about identity and the stories that often comprise it, and asked the core question: What identities are we holding onto that are no longer serving us?
Today’s question: What can we let go of to make room for what we need to move forward?
Charlie’s post, “Leave the Canoe Behind,” tells the story of a traveler who continues to carry a canoe she might need for some future river, even though the next river is miles away and the canoe is making the present leg of her journey harder.
That’s what we’re talking about here. What things, which may have served us well in the past, are either not useful to our current situation, or are actively hampering us from making the progress we could be?
Some examples (which can apply to us as individuals, or for our teams, too):
Beliefs about ourselves and our abilities or limitations
Strategies/Approaches/Habits that once served us, but may now be obsolete
Responsibilities we’re hanging onto that we could and should delegate
Projects and other mental loops taking up time, energy, and attention
These are just some of the places to look for those canoes weighing you down.
If you need some help identifying yours or your team’s canoes, or figuring out how to set them down and what to carry/use instead, the PF team can help. Below you’ll find additional resources, live events, and service offerings that can help you in the sometimes difficult work of letting go.

Take a Moment
A prompt to pause and reflect.
What’s one canoe you’ve been carrying that you know you should put down? How might you accomplish that?
We’d love to hear what’s coming up for you.
